Two-thirds of UK suffers from insomnia  | read this item

A recent study has found that almost two-thirds of Great Britain’s population finds it hard to fall asleep. Health experts explain that the issue has grown to such large proportions that it now warrants attention from the UK public.

Researchers found that 6 out of 10 adults that participated in a survey find it hard to sleep at night and that it is rare for them to sleep up to or more than seven hours. Meanwhile, a third of the survey population identified themselves as suffering from insomnia, adding that most of them have been having trouble sleeping at night for years.

The study, published by the Mental Health Foundation (MHF), shows that people suffering from insomnia are four times more at risk of developing mood swings and relationship problems. The scientists add that insomniacs are two times more likely to suffer energy fluctuations and fatigue during the day. Thus, the MHF has begun promoting sleep campaigns to inform the public how important it is to get adequate sleep at night.
