A travel agent form Manhattan was sentenced to six years imprisonment for theft charges amounting to $25 million worth of clients’ money. 54-year-old Victoria Wofford pleaded guilty to stealing almost $17 million from American Express by charging money on expired business travel accounts.
Wofford was able to steal $8 million more from a defense contract company by over-billing them for travels which they booked through her office. She puts blame on sleep apnea for her crimes saying “I’m not sure what I was thinking at the time, it may have had something to do with the undiagnosed sleep apnea that I apparently suffered from for many, many years.”
Describing herself as a workaholic, Wofford had been diagnosed and is receiving treatment for her sleeping disorder which causes her to lose breath periodically while she sleeps. The disorder also leaves her gasping for energy and dazed during daytime while working in the office.
