A British man who strangled his wife to death during a nightmare about fighting off an intruder has been found not guilty.
Initially, prosecutors asked the jury to find Brian Thomas as not guilty due to insanity. However, they withdrew the initial ruling, because an insanity plea would not be appropriate for Thomas’ case.
Thomas admitted that he murdered his wife, but he is suffering from a rare long-term sleep disorder—not insanity. When he murdered his wife, he was in a state of automatism, wherein he had no control over his body.
