It isn’t just what goes into your stomach that helps determine your health. It’s also how much and how well you sleep at night that affects your potential to develop health disorders. Loss of sleep has now become a major contributor to cardiovascular diseases.
A research conducted in London shows how a person who is only able to sleep less than six hours each night is 48 percent more prone to developing, or even dying from, heart disorders. Brian Pinto, a cardiologist, recalls how a friend’s son aged 43 years old suddenly blacked out while jogging at around 6 in the morning.
Pinto explains that “youngsters are cutting down on sleep to accommodate more work hours and exercise. But without even seven hours of sleep, this could spell disaster.” Meanwhile, fellow cardiologist expert A B Mehta says that “more than 60 percent of patients who land up in a hospital emergency room with a heart attack are first-timers who have never suspected they had heart disease. In many cases, excessive exercising and sleeplessness are common features.”
