Snoring can be a symptom of a serious health problem, especially if it’s connected to sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder indicated by paused breathing during sleep. The condition is linked to serious health problems like obesity and cardiovascular complications.

The condition is more common in middle-aged men than middle-aged women. Children are also prone to the condition. And recent research says that one is more prone to sleep apnea if he/she has a racial heritage of African-American, Hispanic or Islander.

The best way to avoid the condition is by establishing a healthy schedule for your body. This means sleeping and waking at scheduled times, as well as getting enough hours of sleep per day. More than six hours is usually the ideal amount of sleep for adults, and eight hours for children.
