US researchers say that severe sleep apnea can decrease the frequency of dreams and nightmare recall.

The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine. It showed that patients with severe sleep apnea had fewer nightmares those patients with mild or no sleep apnea.

Dr. Jim Pagel of the University of Colorado says that obstructive sleep apnea suppresses the cognitive experience of nightmare recall.

The study indicated that the rate of nightmare recall was 29.9 percent in patients with moderate sleep apnea, but was 20.6 percent for patients that suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
