Researchers are working on a new study to determine how three common disorders are linked together in increasing mortality rates. The scientists believe that sleep apnea, acid reflux disease and obesity all work together in increasing the chances of a person fatally suffering from their symptoms.

Scientists warn that obesity has been found to cause sleep apnea, while inadequate sleep can cause blood pressure rise, stress and even heart attack. Apnea occurs when a person’s breathing stops during sleep. Thus, acid reflux can further heighten the dangers of sleep apnea, possibly worsening blockages of a person’s air passage to the point of being fatal.

The researchers, who are working in the Lynn Health Science Research Institute, say that the three ailments may also be related to carelessness and depression. They add that obesity has been found to affect almost 70 percent of patients suffering from sleep apnea. Thus, the web of health problems concerning people with sleep apnea grows bigger with obesity being accompanied by episodes of acid reflux.
