The link between insomnia and premature death is still blurred.
A recent study suggested that the sleep disorder can cause early death, especially to its male sufferers. However, NHS says that the date from the study still needs careful examination.
In an article published in NHS, the writer said: “These findings require careful interpretation and do not prove that insomnia increases the risk of early death. Sleep duration was only objectively measured once, so it may not represent a typical sleep pattern or confirm that a person had insomnia. In addition, the study’s middle-aged participants were originally enrolled to investigate sleep disordered breathing, so they were not randomly selected and are unlikely to represent the general population.”
The article questioned the study’s limitations, research, and data interpretation.
In a nut shell, NHS said that the presented evidence was not strong enough to establish the link between insomnia and premature death. It claims that more research is necessary.
