License restrictions proposed for senior drivers in Auburn  | read this item

Issues of whether seniors should be given license restrictions have resurfaced in Auburn following two horrific crashes occurring just days apart. One fatal collision was followed nearly a week later by another near-fatal crash that was allegedly caused by senior drivers pulling dangerously into traffic. The incidents have sparked debates once more on whether people with sleep apnea, fading eyesight and reflexes should be subjected to stricter rules depending on their age.

84-year-old Roy Inman was killed back in Feb. 17 as he tried to enter Highway 49. While he was described by his widowed wife to be an “excellent driver”, the driver of the other vehicle had to receive minor treatment in a hospital due to the collision.

Almost a week later, 26-year-old Placer County Sheriff Deputy Bradley Gravely met with minor injuries when 83-year-old Hugh Morrill of Auburn crossed into his path suddenly trying to enter Bell Road from a medical clinic exit.
