Have you ever heard of Sexsomnia?

This sleep disorder has recently stolen the public eye. It is characterized by sexual behavior during sleep.

In 2003, a paper was published by authoritative researchers about sleep behavior. There were 11 cases, where people attempted to masturbate or initiate sexual behavior.

Dr. Michael J. Breus wrote about his findings on the case in his blog. He was able to gather several facts and symptoms, including the following:

•    Most ‘Sexsomnia’ sufferers are known to be sleepwalkers
•    Their sexual behavior during a sleep episode is different from there usual behavior—they are usually more aggressive
•    The condition is worsened by poor sleep quality and less sleep quantity
•    Most of the sufferers were men
•    Patients claim that they were having a sexual dream during the episode
•    A number of the sufferers claim that they were physically aroused by the episode
•    Episodes usually last for up to 30 minutes
•    The condition is exclusive for adults

Whether the condition is true or not, the evidence in hand suggests that it needs further research and examination. If you are experiencing any of the mentioned facts and symptoms, please consult a sleep specialist at your local hospital.
