Losing sleep is a common problem among Americans. The bad thing about it is: most of us underestimate the value of a good night’s sleep.
Getting enough sleep is detrimental to a person’s optimum functioning. The human body needs sleep to process emotions, stress, and memory retention.
On average, a person needs to sleep at least eight hours a day. But, with the hustle and bustle of work life and school, most people get only 6-7 hours of sleep daily. People who develop sleep disorders are in for more problems in the long run.
That’s why you should improve your sleep habits, and here are a couple of tips that can help you get a good night’s sleep:
• Set your body clock by sleeping at a strict time and waking at a strict time.
• Replace stimulant intake with exercise
• Sleep in a cool room, because the body does not respond well to heat
• Take a hot shower, and cool down before you sleep
• Drink warm milk before you sleep to relax the body
• Avoid television as a nighttime activity, because it also works like a stimulant
• Avoid sugars during nighttime
• Optimize the lighting inside your room, dark colors will encourage the brain to rest
