Did you know that one in three adult Americans aren’t getting enough sleep? Most of the time, this sleep deprivation is caused by a sleep disorder.
In fact, over 35 million Americans suffer from a sleep disorder known as sleep apnea. The bad thing about it is most people with sleep apnea do not even know that they have it. And this poses serious health risks.
Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders are linked to stroke attacks and cardiovascular complications.
To raise awareness about sleep disorders, The World Association of Sleep Medicine has declared Friday as World Sleep Day.
Members of the Association say that there should be an emphasis in the value of sleep. People recognize the value of sleep for a child’s growth and development, but it is also vital for an adult’s reduction in stress, preservation of memory, regulation of blood pressure and maintenance of appropriate body weight.
