It’s no secret that obesity or merely being overweight can create trouble for children’s physical and emotional development. While adults most face medical problems such as gallstones, high blood pressure, asthma and type 2 diabetes, children meanwhile aren’t spared from ailments which are equally problematic.

Children suffering from obesity are prone to ailments such as breathing problems, vitamin D and iron deficiency as well as joint problems. Overweight children also are more prone to suffering breathlessness and sleep apnea while or after doing physical exercises. Researchers also found a link between childhood obesity and early puberty, as well as emotional problems such as low self esteem, lack of self confidence, depression and low mood.

Bullying in schools is also a major problem for obese children who get oppressed because of their size. It can lead to major emotional disorders such as comfort eating which only worsens the problem of weight gain.
