Researchers recently reviewed the records of a sleep clinic in Newcastle, Australia. They found that an increasing amount of their patients are overweight or obese.
Sleep apnea was just one of the sleep disorders that they treated. It is a sleep disorder that is most often linked to obesity, because it makes the body’s airways narrower.
In the past 20 years, the number of obese patients with sleep disorders have more than doubled.
According to doctors from the facility, the severity of sleep disorders is directly linked to obesity. The doctors even claimed that if obesity is not tackled in the country, more and more people will seek treatment in sleep clinics.
