The American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) has announced the agenda for its upcoming Sleep Apnea Trucking Conference, which is scheduled on May 11-12 at Baltimore.
The conference will be co-sponsored by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). It will focus on relaying much needed information about sleep apnea diagnosis, treatment, and compliance.
“The conference is a fact-filled day that includes perspectives from regulatory and research agencies, guidance on state medical exams, and real-life experiences from both companies and drivers facing the challenge of sleep apnea on a daily basis,” explained Ed Grandi, ASSA executive director.
“OOIDA (Owner-Operated Independent Drivers Association) is as concerned about safety as anyone in trucking, but the cost, effects on a driver’s livelihood, and the difference in resources available to the major companies compared to the little guy need to be addressed,” said Tom Weakley, director of operations for OOIDA.
The conference is aimed at informing trucking company executives. With better knowledge about sleep apnea, these executives will be able to implement better policies on trucking safety and operation.
